Image - tweet by ComMetrics - 2010 challenge #SMM is the new ligament of marketing - mixing disparate tactics + plant forms into unified messaging #metricsEvery week we tweet about a lot of fascinating stuff, highlighting great content that is of interest to social media folks and corporate bloggers. This weekly compilation provides you with our top tweets for the previous seven days.

Our top stories include why A/B tests fail (go figure) and a Twitter tool that allows you to tweet while giving a PowerPoint presentation, why crowdsourcing may not bring us another BlackBerry, but can help further improve a product, more about how social media (SM) can affect a company’s bottom-line, why you should join us on Facebook – AGAIN, and  how the Taliban use inexpensive software to view video feeds from US drones, an invitation to the Social Media Monitoring group on Xing (if you want to know what Europeans are up to regarding web or social media analytics, you’d better join). Plus, check out some free Twitter tools, and more to better manage your brand on social networks.

Image - Innovation Cube by ComMetrics - invention of plastic was a primary innovation while its use led to derivative innovationsPrimary research is what leads to primary innovation and is based on work that evolves from the testing of theoretical relationships. Hence, the invention of plastic was a primary innovation, while its use in cars or households led to derivative innovations.

Primary innovations will eventually ‘trickle down’ to reach applied research, which is responsible for the creation of derivative innovations – everything from plastic mop handles to microcomputers and iPhone cover options.

I tried to visualize this in my 1990 book, Technology Management in Organizations with the cube on the right, but I am still struggling with the concept myself => read more comments about crowdsourcing and innovation.

    Hey Urs

I love these weekly wrap-ups. They are helpful and save me plenty of time.

  • http://deborahdrake.com/Blog Deborah Drake – Catalyst

Would it be conceivable to revive occasionally the weekly wrap ups? Or is that a crazy request. I agree with Anita!

    • http://My.ComMetrics.com Urs E. Gattiker

      Dear Deborah and Anita

First, thanks for the comment about the weekly social media wrap-ups. I agree I found them helpful as well for myself and to find my greatest links easily months later… thanks to these wrap-ups.

Unfortunately, it is a question of value for money or put differently, is the time spent for preparing these weekly wrap-ups worth the value received (e.g., more readers, potential clients, social contacts, etc.).

As my stopping of writing these might suggest, I thought it was not necessarily worth it. But maybe I have to re-visit this issue.

One thing I will try to do is possibly re-focus and make it also more interesting.

So if we were to release an update this coming Sunday (May 9, 2010), very early GMT time, I would appreciate if you have a look and let me know what you think of our new version please.

Anita and Deborah thanks for your feedback and watch out for this coming Sunday's ComMetrics weekly review – what happened in social media
